5-12 May 2024

This ride is truly incredible – Completely different to the flat savannah country of Cape York peninsula. The first few days are less in distance but more in hills and scenery. Averaging only 70km/day gives us time to explore the ruins of Maytown and the massive Palmer River gold rush of the 1880’s. From there we head north up through the Conglomerate Range – a sandstone escarpment through Kuku-Yalanji country – exploring their culture and ancient art sites. We’ll be riding the Coach Road – a 4wder’s playground and a historical track carved through the hills to allow bullock teams to drag supplies and heavy mining equipment to the frontier town.

From here we head east towards Cooktown via the aboriginal settlement of Laura, pioneering cattle property’s and the headwaters of the mighty Normanby River. The roads become flatter but the distances longer as we push upwards of ~80 km/ day. At Cooktown we’ll get time to soak up the relaxed atmosphere and check out the harbour where Cook repaired his boat as well as the remnants of the gold rush days. The next day takes us down past the Lions’ Den and back into the rainforest around Roaring Meg Falls where the epic adventure of the CREB track begins. Cutting its way through dense rainforest and steep mountain ranges it’s North Queensland riding at its best. Emerging at the banks of the Daintree River and Port Douglas to relax before the final day tackling the Bump Track and Black Mountain Road en-route to Palm Cove to celebrate an awesome week of riding and exploring.

The ride will comprise 60 to 90km per day, camping, relaxing, great camp food, a support vehicle to carry your gear and riding the infamous coach road, CREB and Bump tracks. Allowing 8 days, we leave Cairns by bus on the Sunday morning to start riding near Lakeland. The adventure is all about the riding, but we still plan breaks at all of the best attractions, from swimming holes, to waterfalls, mining history, historical monuments and areas of cultural significance.
